Sappho Griffin
Principal Designer & Project Developer
With a well-established reputation and more than 20 years’ experience in the design-build industry, Sappho’s true passion is for full-home renovations and new builds. When she moved to Nova Scotia in 2000, Sappho was enchanted by the rugged and varied landscape, the traditional homes dotting the coastline, and the storied history of the province’s cities and rural villages.
As an antique collector and self-taught reproduction designer and finisher, Sappho’s true-to-the-client interiors show a deep respect for materials and period-appropriate details. Sappho’s strength lies in seeing both the big picture and the small details, working closely with leading builders and trades to execute on a shared vision at the highest level.
Matthew Dick, M. Arch
Architectural Designer
Matthew holds a Masters of Architecture from the School of Architecture at DalTech. With 20+ years’ experience in residential construction, Matthew has an abundance of expertise in collaborating with other architects, interior designers, and contractors.
Matthew has worked with Sappho and her team for seven years, encompassing everything from new-home builds to additions and renovations. His approach is rooted in traditional methods as interpreted for contemporary architecture — the quintessential Shingle & Stone aesthetic.
Beth Hitchcock
Senior Decorator & Stylist
As a 25-year veteran of the publishing industry, most recently as Editor-in-Chief of Canadian House & Home magazine, Beth brings a refined editor’s eye to her work. Though she’s forever researching new ideas and products, Beth’s real passion is for the enduring charm and style of old houses.
A critical part of her design process involves delving into clients’ wish lists and inspiration files to help interpret what they love and how they want to live. She’s excited by the transformative power of colour, fabric, and wallpaper, but can also appreciate serene, neutral spaces. As Senior Decorator & Stylist since 2022, Beth is often called upon to source the perfect rug, light fixture, or piece of art to elevate a space and make the mix feel both comfortable and current.
Erika Higgins
Design Assistant & Operations Manager
Since joining the team in early 2023, Erika’s interest in design, eye for detail, and skill in operations management and customer service have made her a perfect fit. With more than 15 years of administrative experience, she loves to find new and creative solutions that increase efficiency and improve communication between our team, clients, suppliers, and expert trades.
Erika wakes up each day thinking about how to make things faster, easier, and smoother for everyone she encounters, and she calls on her positive, problem-solving attitude to tackle any challenges the team encounters throughout the course of a project — something she accomplishes with considerable finesse.
