Some Big News: We’ve Renovated!

Much like a well-loved house that’s in need of a refresh, Henhouse has undergone a makeover of its own. And now, we’re thrilled to finally share our new name and website with all of you!

Shingle & Stone has been a year in the making — after many brainstorm sessions, photoshoots, and too many cups of coffee to count. Our ultimate goal: An elevated presence with the same warmth as Henhouse, but one that showcases all the capabilities of our full-service team.

“Henhouse has served me well, and it was the name of a store so many people loved and remembered, but we’ve evolved,” explains Sappho,. “Shingle & Stone speaks to the future of our brand, and our desire to build quality, inheritable homes that belong to the Maritime landscape.”

Of course, with a new name comes a whole new logo and look — and expanded offerings. We hope you’ll tour our new website to enjoy some never-before-shared photos of our recent projects, captured during our marathon photoshoot this summer.

We’re also bursting with pride to share the Heritage Builds section of our site, where we’re debuting four stunning house plans developed by Sappho and our Architectural Designer, Matthew Dick, and based on classic East Coast styles: The Cape, The Colonial, The Saltbox, and The Gambrel. We started by creating mood boards for all of these houses, and giving careful consideration to who might live there — and how they’d like to live. Each one is different in terms of the palette and finishes; Which one most speaks to you?

“We’re passionate about offering people an option for new construction that feels like it belongs here, with a Maritime envelope — created from cedar shake shingles, clapboard, local stone, and timber frames — but with an interior feeling and layout that works for the needs of today,” says Sappho. “I’ve been designing millwork for 25 years, so this is the perfect opportunity to create homes with bespoke millwork throughout that take care of built-in solutions and architectural ideas that add layers of interest and function that go beyond drywall.”

Could one of these plans be the jumping-off point for your future home? We’d love to hear from you and, alongside our trusted partner, Blueprint Construction, work to build your dream home — the kind of place where you’ll put down roots for generations to come.

Give the Gift of Decorating

With the holidays coming up, we’re once again offering our Decorating Packages — a great festive gift for yourself or the design-lover in your life. Whether you need help picking paint colours, deciding on a furniture layout, or just need another eye to help you pull everything together, Shingle & Stone can help.

Our two-hour consultation is $500 and a four-hour consult is $950. All sessions include a review of your photos (or site visit, if possible, for the 4-hour consult), a multi-page mood board and a complete list of recommendations with links to products and retailers. Let us know if it’s a gift and we’ll provide a gift certificate for you to print and put under the tree or tuck into a stocking.

Welcome to the Team, Stephanie!

While we’re in good-news mode, we’d love to introduce our new Design Associate, Stephanie Pounds. After studying Commerce and Psychology at Mount Allison University, Steph graduated from Maritime Business College with a diploma in Interior Decorating. From there, she gained on-the-job experience at Staged for Upsell/Lane & Co., where she worked on more than 10 QEII Lottery Homes.

Steph is an organized multi-tasker who’s also got a great eye for construction drawings, millwork design, and furniture sourcing. She’ll be working closely with Sappho on our new build and renovation projects and jumping in to collaborate with Beth on styling.

“I’m so excited to join the Shingle & Stone team because of their overall approach to design. Whether it’s colour, pattern, or texture, no wall is left untouched — but in a way that leaves each space feeling homey and lived-in,” says Steph. “It’s the level of attention to detail that both inspires and excites me to be a part of such a creative, powerhouse team.”

Steph has already hit the ground running and looks forward to working with more of you in the coming months.
